Why can’t I smell my candle when it’s not lit?

Many fragrance oils can smell quite mild or even different when you sniff them straight from the bottle or a cold candle. This is because you are only smelling the light “top notes.” To experience the full scent, including the deeper “mid and base notes,” the candle needs to be warmed or burned.
